Kyle Anderson's game-tying miss in Timberwolves' defeat stuns fans.
Kyle Anderson, a forward for the Minnesota Timberwolves, will quickly try to forget how the last few seconds of Sunday's 107-105 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers went.
The Wolves' point guard Anthony Edwards took the ball up with a chance to at least tie the game and send it to overtime in the last few seconds. The Trail Blazers quickly put two players on Edwards at the top of the key, forcing him to pass quickly to Jaden McDaniels to his right.
After another Blazers defender got close to McDaniels, he passed the ball to Anderson in the corner. It looked like Anderson was going to try a three-pointer, going for the win instead of the tie.
But Anderson had a pump-fake in mind, and when the Portland defenders fell for it, he had a wide-open path to the basket. Anderson looked like he would have an easy layup to tie the game when he got into the lane, but that's when everything went wrong.
The layup may have been blocked by a defender, but when Anderson let go of the ball, it went over the backboard. With less than a second left in the game, Portland got the ball.
He missed the layup and the Timberwolves' chance to win.
Anderson and the rest of his team couldn't believe what happened when the Blazers got the ball back and won an unexpected game.
At this point in the season, the Timberwolves can't afford to keep losing like this. With only a few games left in the regular season, the Western Conference race to make the playoffs is very close.
The Timberwolves could have moved up in the standings if they had beaten the Blazers, which would have helped them get at least the eighth seed.
The last three games for the Timberwolves are on Tuesday against the Brooklyn Nets, Saturday against the San Antonio Spurs, and Easter Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
